A Categorization of Ethical Dilemmas in Software Engineering.

Abstract:
A name is a powerful thing. Naming a disease, for example allows doctors to identify and share information about it, hopefully leading to a cure, and even better, prevention. In the field of philosophy, certain behaviors are named to better identify them, e.g. “bandwagon effect”. In software engineering, no such names exist for cases of unprofessional behavior or ethical dilemmas. Even worse, practitioners sometimes engage in unprofessional or unethical behavior without realizing it....
